How to Submit

Submitting is a three-step process. First, please send a query note to that includes a brief summary of your work and, if applicable, an expected timeline for its completion. If interested, we will ask you to send a sample chapter (or excerpt) and CV before submitting the entire manuscript for review.

Once a book is accepted for publishing, we contract with the author under the following terms:

  • Exclusive review of the manuscript
  • Fair and equitable royalty agreement
    • Author retains 60% royalties from each sale
    • Copyright remains with the author

Marketing, editing and design services are included.

Author does not pay any printing fees.

A discounted space rental rate at the Open Book is available for Press authors’ book launch events.

A note on Press Manuscript Guidelines: While the Open Book Press prefers to work with manuscripts that follow MLA formatting guidelines, other guideline structures such as the Chicago Manual, APA, etc. can be permissible provided the manuscript follows the chosen guidelines consistently. The Open Book Press retains final formatting rights.
